Andhra Pradesh Man Arrested for Posing as Sub-Collector, Duping Bhubaneswar Showroom of ₹41,800 Smart Glasses

Bhubaneswar, June 27: A man from Andhra Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a sub-collector and cheating a premium electronics showroom in Bhubaneswar by taking away a pair of smart glasses worth ₹41,800 using a fake payment claim.

The accused, identified as Borada Sudeer, was arrested by the Saheed Nagar Police following a complaint lodged by the showroom management.

Fake NEFT Screenshot Used to Obtain Product

According to police, Sudeer visited the showroom in Saheed Nagar on Thursday and selected a pair of smart glasses priced at ₹41,800.

He allegedly claimed that he had transferred the amount through the National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) system and produced a screenshot of the transaction as proof of payment.

Believing that the payment had been successfully initiated, showroom staff handed over the product.

Accused Claimed to Be a Sub-Collector

When the staff informed him that the payment had not yet been credited to the showroom’s bank account, Sudeer allegedly identified himself as a sub-collector and assured them that the amount would be reflected shortly.

He then left the showroom with the smart glasses.

After the payment failed to reach the account, showroom employees repeatedly attempted to contact him over the phone. However, he allegedly did not respond to their calls.

Police Arrest Accused, Probe Continues

The showroom subsequently lodged a complaint at the Saheed Nagar Police Station.

Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and arrested the accused on Friday.

Police said further investigation is underway to determine whether Sudeer was involved in similar cases of impersonation and cheating in Odisha or other states.
